Today marks the 50th Earth Day, a day dedicated to the planet and the people trying to save it. This Earth Day, however, is - for obvious reasons - a little different to the previous 49. Across the world, organisations have worked to move Earth Day online, so that we can all partake in #EarthDayAtHome, with video streams, podcasts, webinars and more from around the world. Here’s what we’ll be attending, watching and tuning in to.
Firstly, Earth Day Live starts today with messages about conservation from prominent global figures including Elizabeth Warren and the Pope, which is a pretty good place to start. But also:
- NASA has a huge range of Earth Day programming to tune into, from NASA Science Live (8pm UK), which covers how NASA technology is impacting the planet, to interview with astronauts about what it’s like to view Earth from space. Find the full list of NASA Earth Day events here
- The American Museum of Natural History has a jam-packed day ahead, with a number of live watch-parties taking place.
- The World Wildlife Federation is hosting an online music festival with over 40 artists from six countries
- The Exploratorium in San Francisco, CA, is throwing an online Earth Day celebration from 6pm UK time
- You can virtually interact with otters at the Virginia Living Museum
These are just a few of the events taking place today, and in the coming days, to commemorate what is admittedly an unusual Earth Day. If you’ve seen any others that have grabbed your attention, please let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
